FERNLEY, Nev.–Curbside pickup of household hazardous waste (HHW), damaged white goods (refrigerators, washers, dryers, etc.) and damaged electronic goods (televisions, computers, etc.) will be available on Sunday, January 13th beginning at 9:00 AM. Residents are strongly urged to segregate all hazardous waste and white goods for curbside pickup. Crews will begin collecting these materials at 9:00 AM on Sunday. This free service is only available to those affected by the flood. These wastes will also be accepted at the Fernley Transfer Station during the week of January 14–18 from 8:00–4:30.
Household hazardous waste and white goods must be handled separately from other flood damaged debris and may not go into landfills. Residents are strongly urged to segregate all hazardous waste and white goods for curbside pickup. Do not move any household hazardous waste in damaged containers. Immediately report any dangerous condition involving hazardous waste to the North Lyon County Fire Dispatch at 911.
Household hazardous waste includes: unused or leftover portions of products used in your home that contain toxic chemicals. Products labeled Caution, Warning, Danger, Poison, Toxic, Flammable or Corrosive are considered hazardous.
Some examples of Wastes that will be included in the curbside pickup:
• Auto Batteries
• Auto Fluids
• Latex / Oil-Based Paint
• Pool/Spa Chemicals
• Propane Tanks – less than 30 gallons
• Used Oil and Oil Filters
