Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State ParkLAS VEGAS–History comes alive at the Old Mormon Fort State Historic Park when the gates open for the annual Pioneer Christmas Celebration on December 14 and 15 from 7:00 p.m. through 9:00 p.m.

Take a step back in time and discover the pioneer era with live music, Christmas carols, aromas of authentic Dutch oven cooking and a Christmas story as pioneer children hang their stockings. An 1860s Christmas will be re-created as close to the time period as one can imagine, with Civil War soldiers welcoming a wagon train into the Old Fort. This nostalgic experience for adults and children is free to the public.

Second public meeting Nov. 8 on recreation plan for Spring Mountain Ranch State Park

Spring Mountain Ranch State Park outside of Las Vegas. 

LAS VEGAS–The Nevada Division of State Parks is holding a second public meeting to present alternatives for the recreation master plan for Spring Mountain Ranch State Park on November 8, 2007. The division will be presenting recreation alternatives developed from public input received at the first meeting. There will be a presentation beginning at 6:00 pm followed by a workshop where the public will be asked to weigh-in on elements to be included in their preferred alternative. Burros on a boat: A BLM burro gather at Lake Mead (video)

In March, the Bureau of Land Management gathered wild burros at Lake Mead in Southern Nevada. Nevada’s Wild Horse Program administrator came along to discuss the gather process as the burros were transported by boat across the lake.

LAS VEGAS–A standing-room-only crowd of nearly 70 valley residents packed a meeting room Wednesday night to voice concerns and suggestions regarding future development of Spring Mountain Ranch State Park. They were relieved when state officials dispelled rumors that the 600-acre park just south of Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area was to be closed or that parts of it would be sold.
